WWF-Australia’s Climate Resilient by Nature (CRxN) is an Australian Government funded initiative to build the climate resilience of Pacific and Southeast Asian communities through high-integrity, equitable, nature-based solutions (NbS). Across the region climate breakdown is raising sea-levels, increasing the severity and frequency of extreme weather, and affecting the functioning and integrity of natural systems – threatening communities, livelihoods, economies and ecosystems alike. NbS intentionally protect, restore and manage ecosystems in order to deliver benefits for people and planet – and support adaptation to a changing climate.

Different places require different approaches, and CRxN projects included coral reef restoration, forest carbon initiatives, mangrove rehabilitation, agroforestry and fish conservation. Collectively, over 5 years, CRxN projects supported 14,000 people across ~60 communities in 10 countries to adopt nature-based solutions, and improved the conservation of 195,000 hectares of marine and terrestrial environments – showing that when nature thrives, people do too. I managed the program from 2024 to 2026 and captured images from projects in Laos, Vietnam, Timor Leste and Fiji during monitoring visits.
